Munich's Maxvorstadt Quarter

It's worth a visit!

Alte Pinakothek

Alte Pinakothek

Munich’s famous gallery for paintings from the Middle Ages up to the 18th century. If those are too old for you (or you too young for them), you find “Neue Pinakothek” (19th and early 20th painters) and “Pinakothek der Moderne” (modern art and design) only a few steps away. All three museums are surrounded by park-like lawn areas with trees (and a basketball court). The buildings themselves are distinctive, too: 19th century Alte Pinakothek had to be rebuilt after the destructions of World War II. The architect Hans Döllgast chose a way to keep the wounds visible by using second-hand bricks to fill the gaps. Inside you find some of the finest examples of European painting from Dürer to Rubens and Rembrandt. - Do you have any more questions about Munich or the Maxvorstadt?
